Planet Neil Lighting Workshop in Seattle

A couple of weeks ago Judy and I travelled to Seattle to participate in an awesome lighting workshop by lighting guru Neil van Niekerk. Neil is a teacher, mentor and superb wedding photographer from NJ. I highly recommend this workshop to any photographer needing to light well while on location in fast paced environments (like weddings!).

The first night at the hotel we met a bell hop (who is an aspiring photographer) that just happened to be toting the same camera as me. He was getting off work and offered to show us around town to get some cool seattle night pictures.

Can you believe this was lit with on camera flash? There is a BIG difference between direct flash (BAD) and flash used to produce directional light (either on or off camera).
If you see us shooting with something low tech like this on our flash... trust us we know what we're doing... honest. :) The photo above was shot using this set up.
I saw some guests whispering about it a couple weddings ago during the reception. I think they thought we had our flashes on backwards! LOL

We also got to experiment with video lights. Hmmm might need to add this to our arsenal in the future.
And here's Judy holding the video light for the shot below.

Tricia and Rich are Married!

Tricia and Rich were married this past weekend. The weatherman called for 100% chance of rain. We had backup bridal party umbrellas, but the heavens smiled down upon us and we had a perfect day with soft beautiful light instead. It stayed clear until the moment outdoor pictures were over. Litereally... the moment we were done the rain started to pour!
Trish and Rich are starting an exciting journey together and we wish them all the love in the world. They are such sweet people. We were so happy you chose us to capture your day!

Jen and Nick's Wonderful Wedding

My apologies as I've fallen a bit behind with the blogging! Jennifer and Nick were Married August 29. Once again we were blessed with a beautiful day. They were married at the Unity of Vancouver Church, photos at the always lovely Queen Elizabeth Park, and reception at Terminal City Club.
The day was filled from start to finish with amazing photo ops. Your day was nothing short of perfection and we were incredibly proud to stand by your side and document your first day as husband and wife.
